WBB's Thought Leadership

A Tribute to Our Brave Veterans

November 11

To commemorate the selfless patriotism and remarkable legacy of America’s veterans, our Nation pauses in remembrance each November 11th.  Throughout our history, over 50 million men and women have left their homes and loved ones to sacrifice for their country and protect the freedoms we all hold dear.  A few of those millions – retired veterans, those who served honorably for a few years and reservists still serving – proudly make up 43% of the WBB family.  They are passionately committed to contribute their hard-earned experience and insights to make our Armed Forces and the government that supports and directs them stronger.

Our most seasoned veteran, Nick Abate, then 17 years old, began his Air Force career as an ROTC cadet in September 1964.  The summer of 1967 found Nick at Plattsburg Air Force Base, a Strategic Air Command base, attending field training and orientation into the Air Force way of life; pictured on the left is Nick (3rd from right).  Nick went on to provide 26 years of active duty service, and as the Air Force Inspectors’ General Chief of Special Investigations, Nick retired with the rank of Colonel.

Bookending the other end of the spectrum, our youngest veteran, Michael Ledford, joined the Marine Corps on October 9th, 2009.  Following graduation from Marine Combat Training, Michael was stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, the “Hell in a Helmet” battalion, with whom he deployed twice to Afghanistan.  They are all part of WBBs team of professionals that strive to incorporate innovative advances in technology, tactics, and techniques that ensure the United States’ Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard continue to be the most capable ever assembled – fully prepared and endowed with the range of capabilities necessary to deter and defeat new and even more complex challenges.  As all Americans pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve at home and around the globe, WBB would like to especially extend our sincerest appreciation for their courage, strength, and resolve for which we all owe our liberties, our security, and so much more.
