LtCol Hammond retired from the Marine Corps in 2005 after 23 years of active service. As an artillery offcer, he served as a battalion fre direction offcer during Operation DESERT STORM and commanded a battery with the 15th MEU during the amphibious landing into Mogadishu, Somalia, in December 1992. Before retiring, he was an analyst with HQMC’s Strategic Initiative Group and director of the Commandant’s Staff Group. He is currently a defense contractor at WBB Inc., and has written over the years about seabased fres, electronic warfare, feet design, and the challenges posed by precision weapons.
