Case Study: U.S. Navy Air Energy Conservation IPT Support (thru NAVAIR 4.4)

CHALLENGE:

  • Air ENCON IPT required personnel to develop, support, and promulgate aviation fuel-savings techniques to achieve the SECNAV’s fuel consumption goals

SOLUTION:

  • Identified, analyzed, coordinated, & published 6 fuel-saving techniques that can be used across the NAE
  • Coordinated among NAVAIR, PMAs, OPNAV, USFF/CNAF, CNAP, & CNAL
  • Conducted data analysis of Navy fuel-usage databases such as ACES & SHARPS
  • Developed an information sharing process to ensure easy availability of all supporting data for HQs and fleet users
  • Developed & published reports on individual squadron fuel usage and trends compared to TMS historic norms
  • Adapted the NAVAIR risk management process to evaluate and assess all techniques
  • Developed & conducted a fleet engagement seminar as part of a SECNAV sponsored awareness conference
  • Oversaw sub-contractor (Deloitte) who conducted the majority of the analysis

  • $2.22B Annual Aviation Fuel Cost
  • 42% of Navy Fuel Use by Aviation
