Case Study: Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Project Management Office (PMO) Support

CHALLENGE

  • VHA required PMO support for multi-year, $43M upgrade of 36 Class 1 International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) healthcare applications
  • Challenges included meeting business owner needs, timely program task completion, cross-organizational change communication, process and policy analysis and improvement, and identifying and overcoming technical and performance issues

SOLUTION

  • Provided a dedicated support team experienced in IT healthcare program management and testing, knowledge management, process assessment and documentation, and communications
  • Assessed and recommended approval of requirements and testing materials to ensure they met business needs, preventing downstream rework and failures
  • Developed communication plans and content for system testing and implementation
  • Identified testing and best practice concerns and provided lessons learned
  • Provided process change analysis, best practice recommendation, transition planning and policy and procedure remediation support

CLIENT RESULTS

  • Successfully managed 17 applications (to date) through to initial deployment testing by identifying testing material issues and coordinating dozens of testing SMEs
  • Applied hundreds of lessons learned leading to immediate development improvements
  • Created comprehensive VHA end to end process flowchart for patient healthcare used in many user and AHIMA presentations to explain VHA process; Identified hundreds of policies needing remediation and dozens of planning and best practice recommendations
